It is understood that the Wafangdian diamond exploration project is one of the second batch of strategic survey initiatives launched by the Ministry of Natural Resources. The main objective of this project is to identify hidden kimberlite bodies, with the ultimate goal of discovering large diamond deposits. The project covers an area of 1,648 square kilometers, including one key exploration zone, one general work area, and three promising prospects. The initiative aims to establish a new major diamond production area for future development.
Recent discoveries include several large and medium-sized diamond occurrences at seven locations. It is estimated that the project will add 3.7 million carats of diamond resources (classified as 333 and above) and 300,000 carats of alluvial diamond sands (334). In addition, Liaoning Province has supported the first pilot project for integrated geological exploration, focusing on improving the efficiency and coordination of exploration activities.
The Benxi Biling-Ximahu Iron Mine, inspected by the Liaoning Provincial Institute of Geology and the Bengang Group, has received significant investment, with the group allocating 55.85 million yuan. Building upon previous reconnaissance efforts, the project will now conduct detailed investigations through enhanced comprehensive research, including geological mapping, geophysical surveys, trenching, drilling, and sample analysis. These methods aim to better understand the spatial distribution, characteristics, and scale of the iron ore bodies.
The project is expected to submit approximately 203,000 tons of iron resources (including 333 and 332 categories) for future development and utilization. This initiative not only supports regional mineral resource security but also contributes to the sustainable development of the mining industry in Liaoning.
