US experts develop new nanoceramic materials or can be used in engine manufacturing

Experts at North Carolina State University have announced that they have developed a new ceramic-like material that could be used in chip manufacturing to increase the storage capacity of existing computers by dozens of times.

The study was led by Dr. Jagdish “Jay” Narayan, Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at North Carolina State University and Director of the Center for Advanced Materials and Intelligent Structures at the National Science Foundation. The results, in addition to computer storage, may be used in engine manufacturing. , new energy collection and other fields.

This new material is a metal nickel atom added to a magnesium oxide ceramic material at the nanometer scale. The nickel cluster size in this material is only 10 square nanometers, which is 90% smaller than the memory cells currently used in the semiconductor industry. As a result, the researchers claim that the memory chip with this material can provide more than 1TB of capacity in the size of the fingernail, which is equivalent to storing 20 HD movies or 2.5 million pages of documents, which is about 50 times of the current flash memory capacity.

In addition to this, the ceramic-doped metal material can withstand relatively high temperatures. If used in a car engine, its heat resistance can be twice that of the existing model, so that the fuel economy can be achieved, and the fuel consumption of the car can be reduced to less than 3 liters per 100 kilometers. If used in new energy harvesting equipment such as solar energy, the collection efficiency can be greatly improved.
