December 16 A Compact Bathroom with a Touch of Elegance
This guest bathroom hadn't seen a renovation in over two decades. Originally designed with a cute red, white, and blue nautical theme, it had become outdated and worn out. Our clients were looking for a modern update that also offered more storage and a sense of luxury for visitors. They desired a sleek, contemporary aesthetic that matched their evolving style. However, due to both financial constraints and structural limitations, relocating walls or plumbing wasn't an option. This meant we had to get creative with the existing layout and make the most of what we had.
For this makeover project, we aimed to introduce a transitional, organic vibe into the space. Our goal was to keep the room bright, open, and highly functional. After discussing with our clients, we decided to remove the bathtub and replace it with a spacious walk-in shower to enhance the bathing experience. The old pedestal sink, lacking storage, was swapped out for a custom vanity that provided ample countertop space and hidden storage. To maintain efficiency, we opted for an updated toilet featuring comfort-height seating and low-flush technology. For additional storage, we designed a matching cabinet to fit snugly into the alcove above the toilet. Armed with our strategy, we began searching for the perfect materials that would align with our clients' vision while staying within budget.
Tile selection played a crucial role in this bathroom redesign. We chose porcelain tiles that mimicked the appearance of limestone but required minimal upkeep. For the shower floor, we went with river pebble stones, which not only felt comfortable underfoot but also contributed to the natural, organic aesthetic we were striving for. To add a touch of drama and make the bathroom stand out, we adorned the back wall of the shower with a stunning blue and green art glass mosaic featuring hints of beige and brown to complement the pebble flooring. The vanity was crafted from a rich, dark-stained wood topped with a pristine white quartz countertop, adding warmth and sophistication. Wall-mounted faucets and a clear glass vessel sink brought a touch of modern elegance, while the transparent shower doors ensured an uninterrupted view of the shower while maintaining an airy atmosphere. Simple sconces and a mirror echoed the minimalist design of the sink, enhancing the spa-like ambiance.
Now, our clients have a guest bathroom that feels fresh, modern, and inviting. By incorporating a luxurious walk-in shower, maximizing storage, and selecting high-quality materials and fixtures, we transformed a dated space into one that any guest would enjoy spending time in. It’s a testament to how thoughtful design can elevate even the smallest areas.
As I wrapped up this project, I couldn’t help but feel proud of what we accomplished. Despite the challenges, working within the confines of the existing structure allowed us to deliver something truly special.
