For outdoor large LED screens, heat dissipation is a critical challenge during operation. Choosing the right cooling system can significantly impact performance and longevity. Below is a guide to selecting the appropriate cooling system based on regional conditions in mainland China. **1. For LED displays under 20 square meters** - In northern Guangdong Province, it's not recommended to use air conditioning for small LED screens under 20 square meters. Instead, using two small fans is usually sufficient. - In southern cities such as Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan, Wuhan, and Chongqing, installing two fans is typically enough. The fan diameter should be around 500mm, depending on the available space. **2. For LED displays over 20 square meters** - If the large screen is mounted against a wall, consider how much space you have for airflow. If the screen can protrude one meter from the wall, it’s best to choose fans based on the screen size. Fans should be installed on the top or sides of the screen. For example, an 80-square-meter P16 outdoor full-color LED screen would require six 600mm fans. These fans should be placed outside to ensure proper ventilation. It's also important to install a mesh inside to prevent debris or tools from being sucked into the system during maintenance. Additionally, waterproof covers should be used at the fan outlets, ideally with aluminum shutters on the outer panel. Air conditioners can also be used, but their placement must be carefully planned to avoid affecting the wall’s appearance. Common AC units are 1.5P, 2P, and 3P. In northern regions, 1P AC is suitable for 12 square meters, while in southern areas, 1P AC works for 9 square meters. For larger screens, custom-made AC units may be necessary. - If the LED screen is mounted on a column, fans are generally the better option. Install them on the back of the aluminum composite panel, preferably facing upwards, and design them like blinds to prevent rain from entering. For double columns, add louvers in the middle to serve as air inlets, while the fans above act as exhausts. This creates a natural airflow and improves cooling efficiency. While air conditioning is an option, it increases both initial and operational costs and may not be as effective as fans. Another consideration is where the external unit will be placed—whether on the column or the back—and whether it maintains aesthetic appeal. In our experience, wall-mounted LED screens typically use air conditioning, while column-mounted ones rely on fans. If cost-effectiveness and performance are your main concerns, fans are the most economical choice for cooling.
