Talking about the construction method of stone binder and the precautions for use

First, the stone binder construction method:

1. Base preparation: Begin by thoroughly cleaning the surface of any contaminants such as grease, dust, or loose particles. Ensure that the base layer and the facing material are free from moisture. The bonding surface of the decorative tiles should be clean and dry to ensure proper adhesion.

2. Mixing the adhesive: Combine the binder with water in a ratio of approximately 4:1 (by weight). Stir the mixture until it reaches a smooth, workable consistency. Allow the mixture to rest for about 10 minutes, during which time it will thicken slightly. After this period, stir again before use. It is recommended not to add extra water during the second mixing, as this can affect the performance of the adhesive.

3. Application technique: Use a trowel or notched scraper to apply the adhesive evenly onto the base surface. Press or gently rock the tile or decorative material into place, ensuring full contact with the adhesive. Alternatively, you may apply the slurry directly to the back of the tile and then press it against the wall. Once in place, square the tile and remove any excess adhesive with a sponge or cloth.

4. Curing time: Allow the adhesive to cure for at least 24 hours before applying any additional pressure or finishing work.

Second, important precautions when using stone adhesive:

1. Always use clean, potable water when mixing the adhesive. Avoid using tap water that contains high levels of minerals or impurities.

2. Do not add any other substances or chemical additives during the mixing process, as this can compromise the integrity of the bond.

3. The mixed adhesive should be used within two hours to maintain its effectiveness.

4. Avoid applying any standard protective agents on the stone surface before bonding, as this may lead to poor adhesion and eventual detachment. For best results, consider using AD2009 waterproof adhesive, which offers both anti-slip and stain-resistant properties.

5. Ensure the ambient temperature is above 5°C during installation. In colder conditions, you may need to warm the surface slightly to enhance adhesion.

6. If the stone surface has oil stains or chemical residues, clean it thoroughly and allow it to dry completely before proceeding.

7. Apply the adhesive in an appropriate amount—too much can cause issues, while too little may weaken the bond. In cooler temperatures, the curing time increases, while higher temperatures may reduce it.

8. Never mix tools between different batches of adhesive. Do not return unused adhesive back into the original container. Avoid moving the tiles or stones until the adhesive is fully cured.

9. In winter, if the adhesive becomes too thick, you can place the A component in a 40–80°C water bath to reduce viscosity. However, once cooled below 40°C, only then should you add the B component (curing agent).

10. Any excess adhesive squeezed out after application can be reused on other stones before it dries.

11. Due to the varying physical and chemical properties of different stones, it’s always wise to test the adhesive on a small area first. Keep the container tightly sealed and avoid contamination.

12. Follow the recommended usage guidelines for the adhesive. The more adhesive you use, or the higher the ambient temperature, the shorter the working time. Always use the adhesive within the specified timeframe for optimal results.
