The implementation of clean production in the electroplating process of fastener manufacturing is an external requirement for building a resource-saving and environment-friendly society in China, and is also an inherent need for the sustainable development of the fastener industry. Electroplating plays an important role in service production and beautifying life.
As a metal protective layer, it is estimated that steel and products scrapped due to corrosion account for 1/2 of global steel production each year, and electroplating can greatly reduce this corrosion, especially when a large number of fastener products are used to greatly extend the service life. It saves a lot of raw materials and performs electroplating treatment on various parts, which can give the material decorative appearance and functional plating, which increases the value of fasteners. Electroplating consumes a lot of precious resources such as water, electricity and metals. At the same time, due to the discharge of solid waste, acid gas and heavy metal ion wastewater pollution pose a huge pollution to the atmosphere and water resources.
The EU "ROHS" Directive was settled on July 1, 2006. Eight months later, China's "Measures for the Control of Pollution Caused by Electronic Information Products" was officially promulgated on March 1, 2007. Last year, the Chinese government promulgated the Cleaner Production Promotion Law, and the State Economic and Trade Commission also issued Order No. 32 and Decree No. 40, which clearly stated that it would eliminate cyanide-containing plating. Reaffirmed the industrial policy of eliminating cyanide-containing plating. In the face of many green directives introduced in recent years, many new issues have been raised for the fastener plating industry.
Clean production is an innovative idea. The idea is to apply an environmental strategy for overall prevention to production processes, products and services to increase eco-efficiency and reduce risks to people and the environment.
Electroplating processes include: galvanizing, hard chrome plating, chrome plating, electroless nickel plating, blackening of steel, chemical oxidation of aluminum and magnesium alloys, and pre-treatment processes. In these production processes, it is required to save raw materials and energy, and the elimination of toxic materials reduces the quantity and toxicity of all wastes. For fastener products, it is required to reduce the adverse effects of the entire production cycle from the raw material to the final treatment of the product.
In order to achieve the goal of energy saving and emission reduction, the fastener plating industry must solve the following problems.
1. Purchase of raw materials. There are good raw materials to ensure the quality of the final product. For steel materials, we must look for authentic products to prevent the aluminum content from exceeding the standard.
2. Purchase of additives. A proven chromium-free (mercury-cadmium hexavalent chromium) plating solution should be used to know if there are any banned ingredients for the additives used. As the saying goes: "I don't worry about buying real goods."
3. Strengthen post-plating treatment. Eliminate the use of chromate solution for post-plating treatment, use environmentally friendly post-treatment treatment solution containing no chromate component, select non-hexavalent chromium passivation, hexavalent chromium plating, chrome plating, cadmium plating, chemical deposition of nickel Lead-free cadmium, lead-free functional electroplating, non-cyanide metal plating, non-cyanide chemical deposition of zinc and many other new processes.
4. Strictly standardize the process flow. To avoid cross-contamination between processes, the production site should be “fiveâ€, standardization of tooling equipment; fixed placement of items; standardization of layout; civilized habits; and regular production of clean production.
5. Give full play to the role of experts. Experts should give special lectures on ROHS knowledge or participate in corporate decision-making or as a consultant. Let it make suggestions for the company's response and protect the company.
6. Strengthen training. Improve the professionalism of technicians. Around the production site, improve the quality of the work of the functional departments and the operational capabilities of the front-line staff, so that employees can work in an orderly manner according to the standard process. The rapid development of the fastener industry has caused some harm to the environment in which human beings depend. In order to eliminate all kinds of unfavorable factors, more standards will appear in the future (it is expected that SA18000 will rise to the occupational health and safety management system ISO18000 in the future), which is an irreversible trend of the times.
The fastener plating industry should clearly recognize its own social responsibility to implement environmental pollution prevention strategies through the system, which can effectively improve the extensive processing methods that are still prevalent in electroplating to achieve “energy saving, consumption reduction, emission reduction, and efficiency improvementâ€. The expected goal is to fulfill the responsibility of creating a better "human settlement environment, green harmony" and strive to win a more brilliant tomorrow.
