Top Ten Solar PV Power Plants in the World

The world's largest single-cell solar photovoltaic project is located in Canada. The installed capacity is 92MW, which is provided by Forth Solar First Solar.

Eight of the top 10 solar photovoltaic projects are located in Europe. Of the top 30 large-scale projects, 26 are located in Germany, followed by Spain and Italy.

The cumulative installed capacity of the top 10 large-scale photovoltaic projects is 648 MW, which is an average of 65 MW per plant.

Most photovoltaic projects (21 out of 30) use crystalline silicon components.

The remaining nine projects use thin-film modules and are provided by First Solar, making the company the best-known component manufacturer.

Ten of the top ten photovoltaic projects (including the top 30 projects) were not built before 2008. Most of these projects (half) were built in 2010.

Looking back in 1995, the revolutionary 3.3 MW terrestrial solar photovoltaic power plant was incorporated into the Italian national grid. At the time, this was the largest photovoltaic system in the world and received multiple subsidies as a demonstration project.

At the time, large-scale photovoltaic projects took almost 10 years to complete.
