Qianlong rosewood cabinet more than 90 million transactions to create a record of Chinese antique furniture prices

On June 4th, during the Beijing Baoli 8th Anniversary Spring Auction's China Antiques Night, a rare piece titled "Qinglong Qianlong Rose Sandal High Relief Kowloon West Passion Top Box Type Big Four Piece" was sold for an impressive 93.15 million yuan, breaking the world record for Chinese antique furniture. This lot became the most expensive Chinese art item of the spring season. The auction began with a special session called "Yan Xian Qing Guan 翦淞 文 文 文 文 文," featuring 36 exquisite cultural relics, including bamboo carvings and purple sand artifacts. The session saw intense bidding from collectors, resulting in a 100% sell-out and generating nearly 90 million yuan in sales. As per international tradition, the auctioneer received a commemorative pair of white gloves. One of the standout pieces was the "Hanting Stone Scoop Pot" by Gu Jingzhou, which topped the sales chart with a price of 14.95 million yuan, setting a new world record for a single Gu Jingzhou teapot. Another highlight was the 239-gram Tianhuang Shangpin "Qing Wu Changshuo to Repair Qitian Huangzhang," which fetched 13.8 million yuan, breaking records for modern Tian Huang seals and Wu Changshuo's personal works. The competition for "Court Art and Important Porcelain, Jade, Crafts" was fierce, with a total turnover of 260 million yuan. Among the highlights was the "Qinglonglong Qing Palace Rosewood Carved Bird-Pattern Floor Cover," the largest known floor-standing flower cover, which sold for 39.10 million yuan, establishing a new benchmark for palace-style furniture auctions. The auction reached its peak with the "Qing Qianlong Rosewood High Relief Embossed Kowloon West Passion Top Box Type Four-Piece Cabinet." Standing at 3.25 meters tall, this was the largest rosewood four-piece cabinet available on the market, previously owned by the Danish Majer family for many years. Starting at 28 million yuan, it went through dozens of rounds of bidding before finally selling for 93.15 million yuan, marking a new high for antique furniture auctions in China. By the end of the auction on June 4th, Poly Spring Auction had successfully raised 2.4 billion yuan, showcasing the continued strength and interest in the Chinese antiques market.
