Greenhouse cultivation of Chinese cabbage involves several key technical steps to ensure healthy growth and high yield. After planting, it is important to cover the greenhouse or small arch shed with a shade net promptly. Watering should be done once daily in the afternoon, as needed. Once the seedlings emerge, they should be thinned out. The first thinning occurs 3–4 days after transplanting, and the second thinning takes place when the seedlings have 3–4 true leaves, with a spacing of 7–10 cm between them. After the second thinning, apply fertilizer water and continue fertilizing for about 3–4 days before final planting. Remove the shade net one week before planting to acclimate the seedlings.
Choose sunny afternoons or cloudy days for transplanting. Water the seedbed thoroughly before taking the seedlings, ensuring the soil is moist. When planting, water the roots and re-cover the shade net to help the seedlings establish more easily. The recommended spacing is 0.3 m × 0.4 m, allowing for 3,500–4,000 plants per acre.
During the seedling stage, apply diluted manure and urine at a concentration of 10%–20%. After transplanting, side-dress with fertilizer. Typically, 1,000–1,500 kg of manure per acre, or 10–15 kg of urea, or 15–20 kg of ammonium sulfate, along with some phosphorus and potassium fertilizer, is recommended. At the beginning of head formation, apply 1,000–1,500 kg of manure per acre, or 15 kg of urea, or 20–25 kg of ammonium sulfate, and 10 kg of potassium chloride. Once the leaf ball shape is basically formed, apply another round of fertilizer, using 500–1,000 kg of manure water per acre. Combine topdressing with irrigation to keep the soil consistently moist. Once the head begins to form, you can spray 0.3% urea, ammonium sulfate, or potassium dihydrogen phosphate separately for root feeding.
Usually, cultivate 1–2 times. The first cultivation should occur after the seedlings are well established, removing weeds and applying water and fertilizer promptly. The second cultivation should take place just before the rosette stage ends, focusing on shallow tilling without damaging the plants. It is best to perform cultivation on sunny days to promote better growth and reduce moisture loss.
